Hello ADHD Brains,

Ever feel like you're carrying 1,000 open tabs in your head — all at once? While also trying to figure out what’s for dinner?

That’s the mental load.

The invisible weight of unfinished tasks, open loops, forgotten reminders, and future plans.

And when you have ADHD, that weight gets heavier — not because we care less, but because our working memory is often on a 10-second delay and our brain treats everything as urgent. Even when it’s not.

You try to remember:

  • That birthday gift (you always forget to buy)

  • That appointment you never booked (LOL)

  • That life decision you’ve been avoiding (Yes you should move to Canada)

But instead of taking action, it loops. Loudly. Repeatedly. Until you're frozen.

You open a cupboard—remember you need more olive oil.
You sit down to send an email—but your mind suddenly reminds you about your cousin’s birthday next week.
You’re halfway through brushing your teeth—and now you’re replaying that awkward moment from 2019.

Welcome to the ADHD mental load

Why Everything Feels Urgent (Even When It Isn’t)

ADHD brains struggle with working memory.
It’s like we’re juggling flaming swords—and someone keeps throwing in more.

We don’t just remember what needs to be done.
We feel the weight of every single thing… all at once.

And without a place to safely store those thoughts, they spin on loop.
That's why a “tiny task” can feel urgent or overwhelming—because it’s competing with a dozen others in your brain..

You Weren’t Built to Store It All

Even scripture reminds us:

“Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
— Matthew 11:28

You don’t have to carry it all in your head.
You were designed for rest.
Let’s give your brain somewhere else to put the weight.

1-Minute Brain Dump (Try It Now)

If your mind feels crowded right now, try this simple exercise:

  1. Open a blank note on your phone

  2. Set a 1-minute timer

  3. Write everything that’s crowding your brain
→ No order. No perfection. Just get it out.

Even this tiny act creates mental relief.

But if you want to actually organize that mental load in a way that helps you move forward…
